About Us
The Monmouth College Chorale, under the direction of Professor Tim Pahel, is a highly selective mixed ensemble which performs regularly on and off campus. The Chorale serves as the centerpiece for the annual “Christmas at Monmouth” concerts and maintains an active and demanding rehearsal and performance schedule. The group serves as an ambassador to alumni, prospective students, and the general public. The Chorale engages students from nearly every major offered at Monmouth College, giving students well-rounded musical experiences with high expectations for performance and competency.
The Chorale has toured extensively both nationally, visiting nearly half the states in the country, and internationally, including a recent trip to Scotland and a tour of Spain in spring 2012. In 2013, the group performed in Carnegie Hall in New York City.
The Chorale frequently collaborates with other campus ensembles including the Monmouth Chamber Orchestra and the Monmouth Concert Choir for performances of masterworks such as Mozart’s Requiem and Vivaldi’s Gloria. In spring 2011, the Chorale combined with the Galesburg Community Chorus and a professional orchestra for a performance of Faure’s Requiem.
Chorale Trip to Italy
In March 2016, we plan to spend nine days visiting Rome, Florence, and some beautiful smaller cities such as Assisi and Montecatini. We will have the opportunity to see some of the most impressive art and architecture in the world, while performing in magnificent cathedrals, some of which are more than a thousand years old.
International music tours are truly wonderful, enriching, and life-changing experiences. The thrill of sharing our music with people in another country, seeing how it moves and touches them, and experiencing many aspects of a different culture, all while bonding with other students in the group, create deep and lifelong memories.
The trip will cost approximately $3,000 per person, and we are working very hard this year to raise money. We have held car washes and conducted events like cabaret nights, drag shows, and spaghetti dinners. We will sing at local churches and ask for donations. Some of us worked second jobs during the summer, and are working an extra job during the school year, so they can save enough money to go on this trip.
We need your help!
Unfortunately, despite these efforts, not all of us will be able to afford this memorable experience. For a number of families, such a trip is simply beyond their financial means. However, with your generous support, many of us will be given the chance to experience a trip that will undoubtedly be the highlight of our college career. Our goal is to raise $12,000 to make this magical trip a reality for each of us who wants to go.
How can you help?
